However, she wanted to read something that makes sense to her, a Malaysian!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus her website \u2018Ringgit oh Ringgit\u2019 is born. It records down her personal finance journey from the saving, to the spending, to the investing, and the safeguarding. She is also a content creation and management specialist \u2013 check it out <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ringgitohringgit.com\/hire-me-freelance-writer-malaysia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without further ado, let&#8217;s get straight to the Q&amp;A.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><b> Kindly tell us more about yourself.<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Majored in communications, worked in NGOs, switched to self-employment (freelance corporate writing) and somehow now working in the fintech industry. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> What led you to start your own blog about investing\/personal finance?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was looking for the type of content that I want to personally read, but there was none, so I made \u00a0one. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That and the potential of earning passive income through blog monetisation \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> I see that your blog has a flipboard magazine. Can you share a bit more about it?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flipboard is such a great tool to find new articles relevant to your interests &#8211; I highly recommend it! In my own Flipboard magazine, I compile articles about personal finance. They are mostly written for the US crowd, but some principles can be applied locally. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the best articles are related to behaviorial science, psychology and market research. Knowing money strategies is one thing, but equally important is to understand own personality and market forces at work. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> What are some of your favourite money-saving strategies?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wrote about 50 ways I use to save money in<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ringgitohringgit.com\/ways-to-save-money-in-malaysia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with various results. Some worked, some didn\u2019t!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, my favourite money-saving strategy revolves around reducing the big 3 expenses: Housing, Transportation and Food. So I rent, have no car and cook at home a lot. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Worth clarifying &#8211; on the buy vs rent debate, I\u2019m pro-renting)<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Let\u2019s talk about investing. At what age did you first invest and what do you mainly look out for when investing?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I made my first major investment in my early 20s. Back then, I was just getting started so I got a safe option &#8211; mutual funds. <em>(Read also &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smallcapasia.com\/5-things-you-need-to-consider-before-you-start-investing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">5 things to consider before investing<\/span><\/a>)<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As time goes on and I learn more about investing, I\u2019ve tweaked my risk appetite and now have diversified in both low and high-risk selections. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I look for strong \u00a0fundamentals in investment vehicles that I find interesting and\/or is a good deal. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Do you mind sharing what is in your portfolio currently?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I invest mostly \u00a0in mutual funds (government, retirement, private retirement) and a few cryptocurrencies, especially <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ringgitohringgit.com\/tag\/bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bitcoin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> We read that you are currently self-employed and has a few articles on how to make more money? What are some of the ways people can earn some extra bucks these days?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must be referring to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ringgitohringgit.com\/side-income-malaysia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this article about side income ideas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \ud83d\ude42 Quite honestly, one can earn extra money in many ways. It\u2019s about the execution, not the industry. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me, I earn from corporate writing and consultation services. Because they take quite a big chunk of my time, I like exploring <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ringgitohringgit.com\/guide-passive-income-in-malaysia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">passive income<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> options and strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Is there a particular book you will recommend?<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a lot, I can\u2019t decide on one. It really depends on what kind of knowledge you\u2019re looking for. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having said that, I really enjoyed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emotionalcurrency.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Emotional Currency: A Woman\u2019s Guide to Building Healthy Relationship with Money<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018 by Kate Levinson, PhD. It implies its for women but all gender can benefit. We like to think we\u2019re, as humans, are \u00a0rational creatures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re not. We make decisions that are not based on logic. Understanding that is very important &#8211; only then you can understand why you spend they way that you do, why you prefer one investment vehicle over another, what careers will help you earn higher income, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the 9 types of intelligence, I believe this is considered intra-personal intelligence. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>\n<h3><b> Lastly, any advice or words of encouragement for fellow readers??<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overconfidence is risky. When in doubt about an investment, consult the women in your life. Women tend to make safer, and thus better, investment choices. Less risk is good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never go all-in for your first investment. Put a little bit, then follow the news, learn more about the lingo, get familiar with the emotional ups and downs as the value increases and decreases.
